For the first time in my family's history in theatre, I have had to make the difficult decision to close our theatres.

Out of an abundance of caution, and in an effort to help limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus, all Mirvish theatres will suspend performances, effective from the matinee on Saturday, March 14 through Sunday, April 12.

Mirvish Subscriptions is not accepting in-person transactions at this time.

Regarding performances beyond April 12, we will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves and will update the community on our website and via email.

I’ve received a question from Geoff:

“What criteria does Mirvish Productions use in choosing shows for its Main and Off-Mirvish subscriber seasons? Is there a committee or is it more a case of choosing what is the best of what's touring and available?”

Theatre is an awe-inspiring, communal experience. Something about sharing the experience with an audience full of people heightens the pleasure, increases the importance, validates our feelings, makes the catharsis more… cathartic!

Except sometimes.

So, globally, 2020 is off to a rough start. There’s already been so much fear and heartbreak for a year that is less than a week old. I’m going to leave all that at the door and focus on the positive, because theatrically 2020 is shaping up to be pretty incredible.

As the decade is winding down it is the perfect time to take a look at some of the best moments of the last ten years. Researching this list has taken me down many a rabbit hole! I hope you fall into some of the same ones, they are pretty delightful. You’re welcome.

Forgive me for being sentimental, but it’s the holiday season- there’s no better time for a little indulgence! For me, the theatre and the holidays are inextricably linked. Christmas 1991 was really where it all started. Under the tree tickets to The Phantom of the Opera were waiting for me. Turns out it was much more than just an evening’s entertainment. It was the start of a series of experiences that have shaped my life. A source of magic and wonder that still manages to surprise and delight me.
