Subscription Numbers for the 2023/24 Season Have Surpassed 42,000 and Continue to Climb

It has been a tremendous 2022/23 season at the Mirvish theatres in Toronto. A year after reopening following the Covid shutdowns, the theatres are doing better than ever, with 2 million tickets sold in 2022/23.

And what a way to end the season: Two Tony and Grammy-winning Best Musicals delighted Toronto audiences at the Mirvish King Street theatres, both ending their engagements on August 20th to sold-out houses.

Hamilton, at the Princess of Wales, ended a 26-week engagement performing to 400,000 audience members.

Hadestown, at the Royal Alexandra, ended a sold-out 7-week run — 70,000 tickets.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which opened in the 2022 truncated season but continued into the 2022/23 season led the way, playing to 650,000 audience members and setting a record as the longest-running professional non-musical show in Canadian theatre history.

At a time when news stories are lamenting dwindling attendance at theatres, Toronto is bucking the trend.

The new 2023/24 Mirvish season — which officially launches on September 23 with the Canadian production of SIX at the Royal Alexandra followed on September 26 with the North American premiere of In Dreams at the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre — is shaping up to continue the trend.

While subscription numbers are falling elsewhere, they are increasing here — with over 42,000 people having already subscribed to either the 7-show Main Season or the 4-show Off-Mirvish season. Some have subscribed to both! This makes the Mirvish season one of the most subscribed theatre offerings in North America, if not the number one subscription.

Here’s what’s on the roster for the 2023/24 season thus far (more shows will be added soon):
