The 26th Annual Mirvish London Theatre Trip

February 1-8, 2026

When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life, for there is in London all that life can afford. - Samuel Johnson

There’s no other city in the English-speaking world with a theatre scene as vibrant, diverse and exciting. But London also offers superb attractions, architecture, restaurants, shops and a rich history.

We’ve been organizing these theatre trips since February 2000. We always visit during the winter because London’s cultural scene is in full bloom. And winter in London isn’t the same as it is in Canada; thanks to the warm trade winds, by February even the early spring flowers are in bloom.

We see four shows as a group. They are always chosen from what’s new and noteworthy. For this coming trip, two of the shows have already been chosen. But not all London theatres have announced their 2026 schedules yet. We will choose the remaining two shows from the best still to be announced.

Our seats are always in the stalls (the orchestra level in North American lingua franca), and most theatres are within walking distance of our hotel; even the National Theatre on the Southbank is only a 15-minute stroll away.

Speaking of the hotel, we stay at the Clermont Charing Cross, which has the most convenient location in London’s West End. Many of London’s best and most famous cultural attractions are virtually at our doorstep – including the National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery, the Courtauld Gallery and the British Museum.

One of the great railroad hotels from the Victorian era, the Charing Cross Hotel was designed by the great British architect Edward Midddleton Barry, who also designed the Royal Opera House, and opened in 1865. It is beside both the Charing Cross Train Station and the Underground station.

An important and defining feature of our trip is the inclusion of theatre critic Lynn Slotkin. She’s with us at all shows, and the morning after each she leads a discussion of the show we saw the night before. The sessions are always lively and lots of fun. You are encouraged to add your voice or just listen – whatever works for you.

While this is a group tour, it never feels like one. We do attend four shows together, but the rest of your time is yours to do as you please.

The Shows

The two selected shows are All My Sons and Paddington The Musical. Two more productions will join the lineup when London’s stages unveil their upcoming season this September—stay tuned!

All My Sons

This new revival of Arthur Miller’s breakthrough Broadway play will be directed by Ivo Van Hove, one of the most dynamic and acclaimed theatre practitioners in the world today. Those who saw his Network at the National Theatre on the 2018 theatre trip already know the kind of productions he creates. Bryan Cranston, who starred in Network and was awarded both the Olivier and Tony for his brilliant performance, teams up with Van Hove again for All My Sons. The other stars are the Oscar-nominated Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Hard Truths, The Amen Corner)Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You, Death of England: Delroy)Tom Glynn-Carney (House of the Dragon) and Hayley Squires (I, Daniel Blake). This is already one of the most highly anticipated shows of the new season.

All My Sons is the play Arthur Miller wrote before his seminal Death of a Salesman. Like it, All My Sons dissects the promise of the American Dream and its cost to one family.

The story concerns a respected, self-made businessman Joe (Bryan Cranston), who prides himself on providing for his wife and their two sons. While wartime delivers profits for the family, it comes at a price when his partner is charged with criminal manufacturing deals, and his eldest son goes missing in action. Peacetime brings little peace of mind as Joe’s true involvement in the activity begins to surface, and he is suddenly confronted by the consequences of his actions.

Paddington The Musical

We all know the story of the lost bear from Peru who arrives in London in search of a new home. A chance encounter with the Brown family at Paddington Station leads him to the wonderful world of Windsor Gardens. But London isn’t all cream teas and friendly faces – and even the happiest families have their cracks beneath the surface. So, when Paddington’s life is suddenly in peril, the Browns must decide just how far they’re willing to go — and what they’re willing to risk — for this special bear.

Based on the iconic characters from Michael Bond’s books and the award-winning films, Paddington The Musical features a top-notch creative team. It is directed by Luke Sheppard (& Juliet, In Dreams, Just for One Day), and has original music and lyrics by Tom Fletcher and book by Olivier Award-winner Jessica Swale. It is produced by the prolific Sonia Friedman, whose work includes some of the finest new dramatic works of the last two decades from major playwrights, such as Jez Butterworth (Jerusalem, The Ferry Man and dseveral James Bond films) and Tom Stoppard (Leopoldstadt), and large spectacles such as Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The show has been developed over a number of years. Theatre insiders who attended a workshop of the show late last year said they found it joyful, funny and moving; many even admitted to being brought to tears.
