New Canadian Production of & Juliet Moves into the Royal Alexandra Theatre
It’s a busy week for Mirvish Productions. Two new shows begin performances; another moves from the rehearsal hall into the theatre for technical rehearsals, and yet another ends its monthlong run.
When all four Mirvish theatres are in full operation, 48,400 theatregoers are required each week to fill all available seats. That’s the equivalent of a full Rogers Centre. Multiply by 52 weeks, and 2,516,000 theatregoers have to be found. These are not small numbers. The theatre business in Toronto is a going concern, employing thousands, appealing to millions each year and creating substantial economic growth.
For better or worse, Mirvish theatres are rarely operational and open to the public 52 weeks a year. The rest of the time is spent on loading shows in or out, running technical rehearsals, or completing upgrades – including renovations to the Royal Alexandra’s public areas and new washrooms in the Yale Simpson Lounge.
For example: At the Royal Alexandra Theatre this fall, TIFF used the venue until September 13, then loaded out its equipment on the next two dates. Tell Tale Harbour then moved in September 16, rehearsed, and began performances on September 23, completing its six-week sold-out run on November 2 and loading out on the next two dates.
Immediately after, the new all-Canadian production of & Juliet began moving in its sets and equipment.
& Juliet is a sit-down production, which means it stays in one venue – the Royal Alexandra Theatre for an extended run rather than touring from city to city. Its sets and equipment are not designed for easy transport. It took three full weeks to load in, assemble, and prepare them. The cast begins onstage rehearsals today - November 25 ahead of the first performance on December 3.
That’s why this week feels extra special. To borrow a lyric from a song that will soon be heard throughout our city, “it’s the most wonderful time of the year.”

Princess of Wales Theatre

CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre
The international hit musical that features and celebrates the iconic music of Queen - We Will Rock You, is making its way to Toronto in a brand-new revival production from Quebec!
The French-language production has been touring Quebec since June and will play Toronto’s CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre in an English-language version from November 28, 2025 - January 18, 2026. The production features an all-Canadian cast of top musical theatre talent from Quebec and Ontario.
