Theatre Seating Terms
Orchestra
ORHESTRA seats are the seats on the first floor of a theatre. All our theatres have three sections in the orchestra seating area. Sections are indicated "right," "left," or "centre" orchestra.
Dress Circle/Mezzanine/ Balcony
The DRESS CIRCLE (Princess of Wales), also known as the MEZZANINE (Ed Mirvish) and as the BALCONY (Royal Alexandra, Panasonic) is the first balcony in the theatre. The front row of this section typically overhangs at about row 12 of the orchestra seating below it.
Balcony/Upper Balcony
The BALCONY (Princess of Wales, Panasonic) contains uppermost seats in a theatre. It can be the third level of seating, or UPPER BALCONY (Royal Alexandra) if there is a separate mezzanine above the orchestra seating, but also can be the back, or highest, seats in a single-balcony theatre.
