THE MUSICAL

SCOTT & FRAN

GEMMA SUTTON

‘FRAN (JUST FRAN)’

SAM LIPS

‘SCOTT HASTINGS’

>>Gemma: The relationship at first might not be- they’re not necessarily best mates at first. Scott’s quite like- a bit full of himself.

>>Sam: Yeah. Standoffish a bit, but.

>>Gemma: And I’m sort of this meek, little lamb. But they bring out the best in each other.

>>Sam: She melts my heart, so to speak.

>>Gemma: Yeah.

[music]

>>Sam: Scott, in the beginning of the show, sort of has this spontaneous moment where he breaks out of a ballroom dance competition and does his own steps and then Fran actually catches him kind of dancing on his own in the studio.

>>Gemma: And that is the most exciting thing to see because everyone else has been very strict and very placed. Fran’s not very good at that.  So she sees in Sam- In Scott (laughs). Basically the same person.  Something that she loves to do herself.

[music]

>>Sam: You have your ballroom, your Viennese waltz and your rumba and your samba. You have a little bit a sort of a new style, which is sort of Scott’s style. Which is sort of based on I guess the contemporary which is really fun.  And then you have-

>>Gemma: I have a lot of paso doble and flamenco. The other Spanish characters in the show also do that, so between the two of us we create this sort of new form of dance that’s more about self-expression and passion.

>>Sam: Yeah.

[music]

>>Gemma: Come and see us. We’re at the Princess of Wales Theatre. It’s a night full of colour and energy and fun and you’ll have a brilliant time.

>>Sam: We open April 26th and run until June 25th.
