My Night With Reg First Rehearsal

[music]

OLIVER AWARD WINNER, My Night With Reg

Jonathon Wilson, Guy

>>Jonathon Wilson: The show is about a group of friends, who went to school together, and it sort of captures three or four years in their lives.

Martin Happer, Benny

>> Martin Happer: The play takes place in London, England in the 80’s during the AIDS crisis.

Tim Funnell, Bernie

>>Tim Funnell: Fundamentally, it’s about relationships. So, that’s timeless. It doesn’t matter whether it’s ancient Rome or dating boys, you know?

Alex Furber, Eric

>>Alex Furber: We just finished our first read through, which is great. It’s so nice to finally hear the play out loud. It’s so funny, touching and beautiful.

>>Jonathon Wilson: Generally it’s the rehearsal that’s the exciting part, in a sense, before you present it, because you’re constantly taking the play apart, putting it back together, examining what is possible in each scene.

Jeff Miller, Daniel

>> Jeff Miller: We were all cast over a year ago for this show, and we’ve been living with the show by ourselves for a while. But this is the first time, this morning that we actually heard the voices come to life.

Gary Powell, John

>> Gary Powell: Now it makes it real. Now we’re actually… it’s no longer sitting in my head. All the voices are there, it’s playable.

>>Tim Funnell: I remember seeing the marquee outside the theatre, cuz I was in drama school when it was first produced in ’94.

>>Jonathon Wilson: And it has since had a great reception, rediscovered in a sense in the West End in London. I think that’s what put it on the radar for Studio 180 and Mirvish.

>> Martin Happer: This will be the Canadian Premiere of the show, which is exciting to be a part of. I don’t know why it hasn’t come to Canada before, because it’s a really strong play.
