Ronald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical

Chris Nightingale: Additional Music and Music Supervision

Tim Minchin: Music and Lyrics

>>Tim Minchin: It wasn’t so much collaboration..

>>Chris Nightingale: It was friction and traction…

>>Tim Minchin: Friction. The more we rubbed, the more hate there was. You know what I mean.

EVEN MORE GLORIOUS THAN PROMISED.”- THE NEW YORK TIMES

>>Tim Minchin: The idea of being given access to work with source material like Dahl’s is incredibly beyond any of my expectations.

Dennis Kelly: Book

>>Dennis Kelly: I got involved because they asked me did I want to write the book for Matilda, and I thought that sounds like a really good idea, you know?

>>Tim Minchin: The process of writing it was mostly spent making stupid jokes and giggling.

>>Dennis Kelly: As we were going through the process, it did start occurring to me that this book meant a lot to a lot of people.

>>Tim Minchin: We both fought very hard for our ideas, and then fought very hard to make sure they came together well.

>>Chris Nightingale: The wonderful thing about working with Tim is that he’s very generous, and very trusting musically.

>>Tim Minchin: I’d sort of go plinky-plonk, or sing, and then Chris would go away, and make it awesome.

>>Dennis Kelly: The response has been amazing, I’ve been overwhelmed by it.

>>Chris Nightingale: The audience just see this extraordinary, virtuositic performance.
