David Mirvish is delighted to present Brendan O’Carroll’s hilarious and madcap world of Dublin’s most popular family in its North American premiere. O’Carroll’s acclaimed and box office record-breaking comedy HOW NOW MRS. BROWN COW! will play a limited engagement at Toronto’s Canon Theatre from August 17 to September 4, 2010

O’Carroll created Mrs. Agnes Brown, a Dublin mother of six whose hobbies include drinking, tea, bingo and meddling, for a programme on Irish radio in 1990. Originally scheduled to run daily for two weeks, the programme ran for three years and 500-plus episodes. Dublin’s prisoners even asked to be locked up early so they could hear the afternoon show!

The radio series was adapted into the stage plays, which have toured around Ireland dozens of times and made the voyage across the Irish Sea to conquer England with similar immense success.

Four plays with sales of more than 25 million pounds at the UK box office later - plus three books, a top-grossing film and five number-one videos - HOW NOW MRS. BROWN COW is the latest instalment of the Mrs. Brown series.

The story itself was simple, yet the play was just brilliant - totally hilarious from the minute the curtain went up until we were standing up to leave. I haven't had such a good laugh in ages, and actually felt lighter as I came out of the theatre.
I can't wait for the next one in March, and will bring a bigger group along for sure.
Congrats on such a wonderful performance.
    Reena.

OMG. BRAVO Brendan O'Carroll, for a job well done. I have not laughed so much in years and needless to say watching the performance on Friday, August 27th at the Canon Theatre, it appeared throughout the theatre to be mutual. I sat beside a couple originally from Ireland who were concerned I didn't get the lingo but HA, came across loud and clear!! I do believe Brendan you cheeky devil, that the occasional adlibs from you also keeps your fellow cast members enlightend and on their toes. A most fabulous time and I too look forward to your return to the Mirvish fold and another great comedic performance. GREAT GREAT JOB to all the cast and crew!!! Cheers.

    Holy (Mrs. Brown) Cow!

Saw the show last night (Aug 27th). We haven't laughed that hard in a long, long time. We caught a video clip of Mrs. Brown on the internet about a year ago and when we saw "she" was coming to town it was a no brainer. Before the show even started everyone was have a great time. There was an anticipation that somethingfunny was about to happen and none of us were disappointed. I will be sure everyone I know hear's out how good this show was and will encourage all to go see it.

    Great work!

  • August 28, 2010 1:00pm Victoria Cloutier says

  • August 27, 2010 12:40pm Bobbi McCaughey says

Saw the play last evening & still laughing today! Wonderful time & truly proves laughter is the best medicine. I'm recommending it to everyone & hoping to bring my siblings with me next time as Mrs. Brown IS my mom!!! Once again, Irish eyes are smiling. Thank you.

  • August 27, 2010 8:22am John Whitham says

Mrs Brown - what a character! A laugh a minute right from the get go. Just an absolutely great show - lots of fun - even the cast could not keep straight faces and say their lines! Ad libs were the order of the day and just added immensely to the fun. Bring them back with another whiz bang show and we'll be there for a second dose of Mrs Brown. It could get to be very infectious.

  • August 27, 2010 7:41am Brenda Scott says

I knew that my husband and I were going to enjoy the show. I didn't know that we would laugh until we cried.
The writing is so witty, the ad-libbing hysterically funny and the physical comedy is wonderful.

I want to see it again -I suspect it gets more outrageous with each performance.

Thanks for a truly wonderful evening!

  • August 27, 2010 2:06am Ros says

Wonderful show.best I've seen in a long time. Please bring Agnes back to Toronto.

  • August 26, 2010 12:03pm Rochelle says

Fantastic show! We just loved it. The ad-libbing was phenomenal. It was a years worth of laughter in a span of 2 hours. I didn't want it to end! We are very much looking forward to your next show and hope it arrives soon! Well worth the hour drive to Toronto. If there are any misconceptions out there that you need to be "irish" to enjoy the show or get the jokes--you don't. We laughed until we cried. As an added bonus, my mother doesn't want to move with me when she gets old now, the show put too many ideas into my head. Who would have thought there would have been that added benefit from watching the show. Now where did I put my cookie sheet?

  • August 26, 2010 11:54am Liz Cuthbertson says

Loved the show...I can't remember when I laughed so much. Uplifting for your spirit, to be surrounded by so many people laughing at the same time. A great big thank you to my friends....Sharron and Donna, for a wonderful birthday treat.
Come on Mrs. Brown we want to see much more of you in Canada.

  • August 25, 2010 11:55pm Lisa says

  • August 25, 2010 9:26pm Lexi says

Pure dead feckin brilliant!!!! We loved every effen minute of it!! We all had to change our undies when we got home ;). Continued success Brendan, you are a diamond! All the best to you and yours and please come back to Toronto soon. We are booking our tickets for the next show, so you have no feckin excuse not to come. SLAINTE!

  • August 25, 2010 6:47pm Debbie says

This is the BEST show ever!! Non-stop laughter, great fun, all around great time. Brendan is hilarious and his ad-libbing made the show. Loved seeing the cast as helpless with laughter as the audience. Absolutely brilliant!! Bring Mrs. Brown back soon!

  • August 24, 2010 7:16pm Marie Flood says

This really was the best show that I ever Saw. I went with my husband and two sons. We emigrated from Ireland 4 years ago.My sons are finding it hard to settle. The night really gave them a great laugh. The highlight was when we me the cast outside the back ally way. I saw the show Saturday afternoon, Aug 21'10. I can hardly wait for the next one, hopefully in January. I have never laughed so much without a break to give my stomach a rest. And it was the whole theatre laughing along with me. I loved the show and will be on the alert for the next one. I never thought the "F" word could be so funny. Well done and the rest of the cast were perfect.

  • August 23, 2010 8:24am Lee Kools says

My cousin & I saw this fabulous show on August 18th. I warned her we would need to buy Depends (she hadn't seen the video clips on YouTube). I was right! This is the funniest, most wonderful play I have ever seen. I'm not sure when I've laughed so heartily or so much. Our bellies and cheeks ached from it.

Please bring Mrs Brown and her crew back. We'll be there with bells on and bring a whole bunch of friends with us!!!!!

Kudos to Brendan and all of his cast - each was fabulous but, of course, Mrs. Brown stole the show.

    Thanks for sharing your talent!!

  • August 21, 2010 6:38pm Steve Korbey says

    20th August
This was an evening of great hilarity. Mrs Brown is played in a way that has a touch of Les Dawson as well as Monty Python. The asides and ad lib comments add a lot to the show, as does the obviously genuine fun that the cast are having.
Mrs Brown is an excellent tribute to the millions of Irish mothers who have sustained and nourished the very heart of Irishness.
Excellent show, and meeting Brendan and the cast afterwards was a real treat.
Thank you all from the heart of my bottom!

  • August 21, 2010 11:08am Tena Morkeberg says

  • August 20, 2010 10:56pm Lynn says

This show was awesome, amazing and I laughed for the entire 2+ hours. The improv that took place was hilarious and you could just tell by the looks on the other cast members faces that they weren't expecting alot of what "Mrs Brown" was saying. I would love this to come to the telly and I would go back to see this show in a heartbeat. Thanks to the Mirvish's for bringing this to Toronto. It was brilliant!!!!

  • August 20, 2010 3:38pm Anna Fox says

    Hi Brendan,

Congratulations to you and the rest of the cast for a fantastic show on Wednesday night in Toronto. I can't recall the last time I laughed as much as I did . Iit was brillo bleeding great! You all must be having the time of you life .. fare play to ye!
Take care and be good or be good at it!

  • August 20, 2010 12:00pm dolores maher says

As a Dubliner I laughed my head off. Brendan is the "Dublin Mammy" we've all seen over the years - kind, honest to a fault, suffers no fools (except her kids), and a wicked sense of humour. It was obvious that Brendan dropped the cast in it every now and again, just one look at their faces gave it away. Improv is alive and well in this show which means if someone goes more than once, they'll never be bored! Come on out and see this show. This a great show for anyone who gets the Irish sense of humour; as long as you don't mind the odd 'feck', you'll have a ball.

  • August 20, 2010 9:58am Wayne Taylor says

  • August 18, 2010 8:53pm Aurie says

Went to the opening of Mrs. Brown last night and I must say had the biggest laughs and best time of my life.

The show is brilliantly done and the cast absolutely hilarious from the time the theatre lights went down right thru to the end. Fastest and funniest 2 hours and a bit I have had in a long time.

I certainly hope you bring Brendan O’Carroll and his cast back again real soon. I personally think 2 weeks is a short run as I would go back and see this one again in a ‘heartbeat’

Thanks Mirvish Productions for giving us such great theatre.

I can't wait to see the show..I've read "the mammy" trilogy and the prelude "the young wan" and am so looking forward to seeing Mrs. Brown live! I'm bringing my own Irish mammy to the show(she's coming over from Finglas, Dublin) but she might not find Mrs Brown funny as she is so much like Mrs Brown herself! Mr O' Carroll are you sure you haven't met me mammy?
