Monkey King
Produced by the 2X Dora Award Winner - Sight Sound & Action
The first Chinese Rock-Musical where “dance-crobatics” is combined with acrobatic Kung Fu
Over 70 artists perform against a background of 20 stunning sets with more than 500 lavish costumes
Inspired by the legendary Chinese fable Journey to the West, Monkey King is a raucous, high-energy musical telling the story of a monk’s quest across China to recover a book of sacred teachings. His journey is accompanied by a motley crew of warrior companions, including his bodyguard, the incorrigible and mischievous Monkey King. Their path finds them beset by wild demons and monsters, matching wits with kings and gods and discovering important truths about friendship and self.
Featuring breathtaking kung fu battles, spellbinding dance sequences, thrilling flight scenes and an entirely original, driving rock score, Monkey King is a show that will thrill, amaze, and delight audiences of all ages.
The production’s songs are performed in the original Chinese with English subtitles. Please note as the story is primarily told through acrobatic dance and martial arts, the performance is accessible for all audiences.
