THE SOUND OF MUSIC
Now booking for performances through September 6, 2009 The Princess of Wales Theatre
|
Andrew Lloyd Webber, David Ian and David Mirvish will present the North American Premiere of the smash-hit new London production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC at Toronto's Princess of Wales Theatre beginning in September 2008. With music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, THE SOUND OF MUSIC is one of the most loved musicals of all time. The film adaptation of the original 1959 Broadway production won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture in 1965.
Like the critically acclaimed and immensely popular London West End production, the leading role of Maria in the Canadian production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC will be cast by the public through a television program that will be broadcast nationally on the CBC network in an eight-part primetime series to be shown in July and August 2008. The score for THE SOUND OF MUSIC touches the hearts of all ages and brims over with some of the most memorable songs ever performed on the musical stage including My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Edelweiss, Climb Ev'ry Mountain, Sixteen Going On Seventeen and of course the glorious title song The Sound of Music. This timeless family classic will be overseen in Canada by director Jeremy Sams, choreographer Arlene Philips and designer Robert Jones, all of who won raves from the London critics for their superb work on the West End production.

SPRING AWAKENING
March 17 - April 19, 2009 The Canon Theatre
|
SPRING AWAKENING takes its inspiration from one of literature's most controversial masterpieces - a work so daring in its depiction of teenage self-discovery, it was banned from the stage and not performed in its complete form in English for nearly 100 years. Now Broadway's most talked about new musical and the biggest Tony Award® winner in years, SPRING AWAKENING is the groundbreaking fusion of morality, sexuality and rock & roll that has awakened Broadway like no other musical. Winner of eight Tony Awards® including Best Musical, SPRING AWAKENING celebrates the unforgettable journey from youth to adulthood with a power, a poignancy and a passion you will never forget.
